Guest Lecture at Western Sydney University- What it takes to grow 10grams of basil

OCT 2019  Enesys founder, John Norwood today had the honor of being invited to give a guest lecture to the students of Sustainable Agriculture at Western Sydney University. John focused on what it takes to grow 10 grams of basil across broadacre farming, traditional greenhouses, and a vertical farm. He undertook significant modeling to determine the outcome. Vertical farming due to its energy footprint was by far the worst way to grow 10grams of basil This is John's model demonstrating the impact of growing basil in a Vertical Farm From the human consumption of 10 grams of basil, this model travels backward identifying the emissions of carbon dioxide (equivalent) generated by the useful and wasted streams of basil all the way to the grower… The size of the clouds are a visual indicator of scale. Check out the large brown cloud at the top…!!!   Clouds associated with transport and waste decay are small in comparison….      Th...

Learning from the Dutch in what it takes to create true Circular Economies

October 2019 Learning from the Dutch in what it takes to create actual Circular Economies Today we were invited to a Circular Economy Forum hosted by The Kingdom of The Netherlands and the Victorian State Government. We heard the Prime Minister of The Netherlands, Mark Rutte discuss the initiatives that have been undertaken by their country to ensure that only 3% of their waste goes to Landfill.  That's incredible!! They see all waste as a resource, and their garbage trucks carry the slogan "There is no such thing as Waste."   In 2016 the Dutch government launched a Circular Economy Programme that identifies five areas of priority to transition into a circular economy by 2050. These include biomass and food, plastics, manufacturing industry, the construction sector, and consumer goods.  Prime Minister Mark Rutte aims to collaborate and partner with Australia in bringing the Dutch experience to our government. Waste to Energy can power 2000 homes

Waste to Energy can power 2000 homes. Why would we not incorporate this into all our communities? Relocate waste away from landfills and create clean energy? Even better grow food with heat, Co2, and energy. Yarra Valley Water’s “ReWaste” energy plant has transformed more than 45,000 tonnes of food waste into 10,000MWh of clean energy, capable of powering 2000 homes, in the two years since it commenced operations. The plant has been regarded as thriving proof that waste to energy technology is the next big thing in tackling climate change, and similar technology could be used to manage different types of waste and landfill in the future as Melbourne’s population continues to grow.  https://www.energymagazine.com.au/waste-to-energy-plant-capable-of-powering-2000-homes
